I have had amaryllis in bloom since December 17th. What a gift!

I had this lovely pink variety, ‘Neon’ in bloom for Christmas. I have never seen anything like this one–it had 8 blooms per stalk! It definitely exceeded my wildest expectations. That was quite a Christmas gift.

‘Neon’ was followed by the white amaryllis, ‘Christmas Gift.’ For those of you who remember my struggle to actually get an amaryllis that was white, this really was a gift! It just finished blooming at the end of January.
And as I took the last blooming stalk off ‘Christmas Gift,’ ‘Temptation’ opened up. The timing was perfect. It should bloom for most of February.
I have another amaryllis bulb that I haven’t even potted up yet. And of course there are the ones from prior seasons yet to bloom. It looks like a lovely season ahead.
I’ve never grown an Amaryllis. They come back year after year don’t they?
Yes, they will, and depending on your climate (if you are in Florida or California, for example, you can grow them outside in the ground!). Otherwise, you keep them growing in the pot (treat them as you might outdoor bulbs–cut off the flower stalk and just let the green leaves flourish) from whenever they finish blooming until autumn. At that point, I generally let mine dry a bit and then stash them in the basement. Depending on the year, I may repot them and bring them up beginning in March or so–because how fun to have these big flowers in the house while it’s still not spring (at least not where I live!) or, if I am lazy, I do nothing until it’s warm-ish, which where I am is about Memorial Day. Then I bring them back outside, repot them and have amaryllis flowers in June and July which is even more fun–to have them growing with roses and hydrangeas! I definitely recommend them–they’re easy. Maybe I will! Thanks for the insight
You’re quite welcome! Good luck!
