Today’s writing prompt asks where we go when we need solitude.
As you can tell from the above title, for me, solitude and silence are synonymous. I can’t really have one without the other.
And I am relatively fortunate. I have a small room in my home that I call my den–others might call it a spare bedroom although right now, with a desk, bookshelves and a comfy chair in there, it looks nothing like a bedroom and doesn’t function as one. That’s my “happy place,” particularly during these years of pandemic when everybody is home.
I don’t really do much work there–if I have writing to do, I generally do it elsewhere. My den is for reading and relaxing and quiet time. Solitude, in other words.
And for whatever reason, even the wifi signal is bad up there, which is fine. I don’t need to be in touch 24/7. Again, it’s nice to have that quiet time.
