Now You See It….

I mentioned last week that our weather was very finicky this time of year. That makes it really  tough to grow certain things like magnolias and the old-fashioned hydrangeas that bloomed on old wood here.

At least twice in the last five years the magnolias have bloomed and then been killed by a late freeze.  This year it was even worse. The late freeze was accompanied by heavy wet snow.

So I had lovely blooms, as you saw above, and here, in close-up.

And then they wound up like this!

I suppose I am luckier than many gardeners.  I do not have one of those warm micro-climates so not very much was in bloom in my yard. Many people had tulips,  daffodils,  hyacinths & lots of flowering shrubs already in bloom.  That’s just heart breaking when you wait all year to see  them bloom.

Oh well–there’s always next year!
