Wordless Wednesday–The Winter of My Discontent

Front Steps

How would you like to approach that several times a day? Fortunately we have another way into the house that is not quite as iced up as this.  But when UPS leaves a package at this door, it’s literally a life threatening thing to attempt to retrieve it.

Ice Floe

Then there’s this mess at the bottom of the driveway. It looks pretty benign right now. But overnight, all that water freezes up.  It’s usually okay to drive over with a car.  But walking over it with a small dog is always an adventure–for the both of us.  Our driveway seems to collect water at the bottom.  I think it’s a function of how far we are from the storm drain. I’ve noticed another neighbor’s driveway–also pretty far from the storm drain–has a worse ice floe than we do.  Luckily she doesn’t walk a dog.

I would so much rather have a snowy winter than all this ice. Because of the dog/the lake/the environment we won’t use ice melters.  So we’ll chop at it but that’s about all we do.  Very frustrating.

Oh well–5 1/2 weeks until meteorological spring!

I was just thinking…I’ll take our bitter cold and snow to that ice.

They are finally predicting some snow for us. I certainly hope it’s snow and not more of this wet mess that freezes into this misery! Ugh! Thanks for your sympathy, Donna.
