One July Summer

“What has happened to summer,
That’s what I want to know.
Is she on a
vacation –
Who knows where did she go?
Tell, what was she wearing;
zephyr breeze and rosebud
Or grass and wild berry?
Could she be
With spring or early fall
Or has she gone so far
She’ll not return at all? ”
–  Dorothy Ardelle Merriam

I particularly liked this poem because it reminded me of my Dad.  Dad always used to say on Memorial Day, “Summer’s here.” Then when July Fourth came he’d say, “Summer’s over.”  And he wasn’t a pessimistic man, but sure enough it seemed that once July Fourth hit, summer did seem to pass by too quickly!  So savor the most of every summer minute that’s left–because it will fly by from here!
